How to Keep your House Decluttered in 2 Easy Steps

You come home after a long day at work. You cook dinner, you change clothes, and you are ready to relax and enjoy the rest of your evening. But just as you are getting ready to sit on the couch and binge the newest Netflix, you notice that your house is getting messier and messier. You think to yourself “I’ll just take care of that tomorrow when I am feeling up to it” Or “I’ll just do it this weekend.” Despite these sentiments, it turns out that you are just as tired the next day, and you end up letting the clutter get out of control! Eventually, you have no choice but to spend an entire afternoon clearing out the clutter from your house. If this sounds at all like you, follow these 2 tips below to avoid all the clutter.

How to Keep your House Decluttered in 2 Easy Steps

1. Organize

I put this as tip number one because it is the most important! It may take a little time to get set-up, and you may struggle to adjust to it at first, but nothing defeats clutter like organization skills. Have a dedicated place for all of your stuff, and make sure to adhere to your plan. No matter how tempting it becomes, DO NOT abandon your meticulously planned organization. If you stick to it loyally, clutter will become a thing of the past.

2.  Set Aside a Little Time Each Day

I admit that I can be something of a procrastinator. Don’t fall into that trap! If you set aside something like 10 minutes every day to clean things up, you won’t have a chance to collect clutter! A good rule for this is if something takes less than 5 minutes to do, do it now. This will save you so much time and effort in the future if you just work on it a bit at a time. It may seem a little juvenile, but I like to reward myself for completing tasks around the house with little treats such as ice cream. This helps provide me the bit of incentive I need to do what needs to be done.
